Larisa teaches a variety of classes at various clubs as well as personal trains clients (adults and children) at home and at fitness centers. I personally met Larisa when I took one of her group fitness classes, Body Attack, at the Jewish Community Center in Owings Mills.  I immediately connected with Larisa and was challenged with the most amazing workout I had ever done.  In fact, within a very short time, I became such a big fan of hers that I joined a second gym, Brick Bodies so that I could train with her more often.  I am 44 years old and have worked out most of my life.  I have NEVER felt like I was getting a one-on-one session with an instructor in a class setting until I took Larisa’s classes.  She has the unique ability to identify with all participants in her classes pushing them to achieve their individualized fitness workout that they set out to accomplish that day.   She encourages and motivates anyone that works out with her to find their inner strength and perform at an optimum level.  She is incredibly passionate about her profession and will go above and beyond your wildest expectations of a trainer, mentor and worker.  She spends countless hours choreographing workouts whether it is for a private or class setting.  She hardly ever takes a day off and is at the beck and call of her clients constantly texting, calling and keeping in touch with them to provide encouragement and support.

I have also had the pleasure of Larisa training my two oldest sons.  The progress she has made with them is amazing.  It is very rare to find a trainer that can be effective with children and adults but I can honestly tell you that Larisa has been able to conquer this challenge.   She masters anything she sets out to accomplish.  She is truly committed and her drive is unmatched by anyone I have ever encountered.

In addition to Larisa being an incredible trainer, she is a loving and caring woman.  She truly wants to please everyone and will go to great lengths to do this.  I cannot think of a person more deserving than her to receive this award.  I truly hope you will consider her to be Baltimore’s favorite trainer and instructor.

I met Larisa when I was at my heaviest weight ever.  I was taking her step class and was all the way in the back of a very crowded class, trying to stay hidden. Towards the end of the class, I missed the step and came down hard, severely spraining my ankle.  Larisa was the ONLY one to even see that I did it, and immediately came over to me.  She helped me up, got me some ice and proceeded to worry about me for the next 15 minutes.  Several years later, she is always there to help me up and support me.

Larisa also gave me my husband back… a new and improved version.  After 2 years of me working with Larisa as a personal trainer, cycling instructor, confidant and cheerleader, Larisa began personal training with my husband who was also very heavy and probably on his way to a heart attack.  And did I mention he could be very prickly and difficult? Well, he was no match for Larisa who, with her unlimited dedication and unwavering support, as well as a healthy dose of good humor helped my husband achieve so many goals.  She never gave up on him; she made him a healthier, leaner, STRONGER and happier version of himself.  She devised incredible workout routines for him.  She encouraged him when nobody else could. And when he would surpass her expectations, and achieve goals, she would create higher goals.  I’m convinced that without her, my husband would not be with us right now.

I’m sure there are many excellent, qualified gym heroes out there, but here’s what makes Larisa special.  Larisa’s knowledge of proper body mechanics, nutrition and integrated workouts to achieve the best possible outcomes are beyond belief.  She is not a trainer who says “ Ok, let’s do 15 reps of this” and walks away…she is watching your every move to makes sure you are doing each 1 safely and correctly to avoid injury.  She can do this 1:1 or in a cycling group of 30 people.  Her eyes are everywhere and she will instruct you as if you are the MOST important person to her.

Her energy and enthusiasm are boundless- nobody can motivate you in a cycle class like Larisa! It can be the most grueling of workouts, and you feel that you want to give up, but then you hear Larisa’s booming voice and her incredible sense of humor, and you know you are going to make it.

There are a few other things that make Larisa unique.  She is the HARDEST working person I have ever met.  She will work 15-16 hours a day, and never seems to lose steam. She will stay up until the late hours of the night, and early morning to create specific training routines for each of her clients. When you train with her, no 2 workouts are ever the same. She always texts or calls her clients to see how their day is going, how their food program is going, how they feel after a workout; and she does this on a daily basis, not just every so often! She never stops thinking about the people she is helping… and all of this while still raising her 3 young children.

I could share with you so many stories, so many Larisa-isms, and there are plenty! Her following at the JCC-Owings Mills is so devoted to her as she is so dedicated to us. Larisa is a superstar in the gym as well as outside the gym.  She is loved.  She is a life-changer.

I met Larisa about 14 years ago and quickly started taking her classes.  She is an unbelievable woman and fitness instructor.  She challenges me to this day.  When I think I can’t do it, she comes beside me and reminds me how well I can do it.  She always shows up for class no matter what.  We are lucky to have her. I am fitter and stronger because of Larisa!  Love and appreciate her!

This woman is amazing. She is a wife and a mother of three but somehow manages to keep in touch with all of her clients, checking in on them and making sure they stay motivated and on track daily. She truly wants to see you succeed, as much if not more than you want yourself to succeed.

Exercising is not easy for everyone and it can be hard to motivate yourself but she makes it fun with her different exercise routines and witty comments. She really gets you motivated to work hard and pushes you to keep going when you want to quit. She always goes the extra mile to help you and show you that you are really stronger than you think.

I have been working out with her for about 2 years and can honestly say that she has helped me change my lifestyle to eating more clean and working out more on my own in addition to training with her and the classes she teaches so that I reach my fitness goals.

She is very compassionate about fitness and practices what she preaches which is very important. Her classes at the gym are always packed because everyone adores her. She is high energy and very knowledgeable. Larisa truly deserves “best trainer” as she not only becomes your trainer but a friend as well who cares about you and wants to see you succeed.

I doubt you’ll find a trainer with as much knowledge and expertise that she so eagerly shares with clients and participants in her group fitness classes. Her experience and knowledge combined with her sense of humor, never ending energy, and genuine desire to push people beyond their perceived limits make her classes stand out from all others. There is cycling class which is a brutal workout regardless of the instructor and there is cycling with Larisa which belongs in a totally different category. Sometimes I dread it walking in but the physical exhaustion and psychological boost I feel upon completion always make it worth the effort.

Larisa will customize a workout to meet your needs and preferences and accommodate your weaknesses, preferences and injuries. She does it so naturally and easily since her wealth of knowledge is so deep, broad and ingrained. You can choose to work out in the gym or at home with whatever equipment you want and she will be sure you get an awesome workout that leaves you coming back for more.

Nutritional advice is offered if you desire and each personal training session is followed up  with a text to check on you and assure you that she is always available if you have concerns or questions.

Larisa may initially seem tough and intimidating but I have seen her work with people in many ages groups and with various abilities and she is actually very sensitive and   truly has a gift for connecting with people, staying in tune with them and  pushing them to higher levels .She gets to know most class participants by name so she can personally acknowledge everyone. I honestly can’t imagine a more amazing, motivating trainer or instructor.

The purpose of a physical trainer is to assist and motivate one to achieve their fitness goals. Larissa is simply the best in the field of trainers. Having been trained by Larissa in a class setting (primarily cycle/spinning) and individualized settings (primarily yoga), I always feel as if I have met my fitness goals (and then some) after each session with her.

She has the uncanny ability to know just how far to “push” one to achieve optimal fitness goals. Even though I might be cursing her under my breadth during one of her sessions, I believe (as do others) that all of the effort expended are well worth the results achieved. In addition to the more formal training sessions, Ms. Unger makes herself available to anyone who seeks her advice.  And, many do since most recognize her expertise in the field of physical fitness. She is totally selfless with her time when it comes to helping others

While perhaps not a requirement to be a good physical trainer, Larisa has a great sense of humor.  Her self deprecating style of humor keeps one at ease-perhaps not with the training session itself but with one’s mental outlook. Frankly, it feels good to have a chuckle or two while struggling through a Larisa training session. She can’t hide the fact that she is extremely likeable; I have never heard anyone say anything negative about her.

For the above reasons, I nominate Larissa Unger as my; favorite trainer of the year.

Larisa Unger has been my personal trainer for 10 months now. I met Larisa while taking a cycling class at the JCC that she teaches on a regular basis. After attending a few cycling classes, I quickly realized that Larisa’s training technique is something beyond extraordinary and exactly what I have been looking for in a trainer to help me change my life. Following the birth of my second child, in which I gained 70lbs, I did not know where to begin in order to lose weight in a healthy manner. Through consistent positive feedback and encouragement, she retrained my mind, body and soul. She is the perfect combination of tough and warm, knowing how to inspire and push you to the next level without you actually knowing it. Because of her efforts, I have achieved a leaner, stronger, energetic and more flexible body than I have ever thought to be possible. She discovered the athlete in me that I never knew and continues to push my expectations.

Larisa’s passion for fitness shows through the energy and enthusiasm she brings to every group fitness class and personal training session she teaches. She has made working out a fun activity instead of a chore and I look forward to my daily active lifestyle, all due to her enthusiasm and passion for fitness. The results I have achieved to date which include losing 65lbs are largely due to Larisa’s perfect combination of diverse training methods, individualized exercise programs & challenging yet achievable goal settings. Her professionalism, extensive knowledge and enthusiastic commitment to her work and ultimately her clients, provides the impeccable scenario for success and sets foundations for a new healthier lifestyle.

Larisa is the standard by which any trainer should be measured as her vast knowledge in nutrition and exercise science along with a broad certification level in multiple group fitness classes makes her the most sought after trainer and at the top of her profession.

I would like to thank Larisa for changing my life in the most positive way possible!

I’m a long time runner but due to a back injury I had to switch gears, so I decided to try barre. While it was extremely challenging and every body part was on fire (and I could barely do all the moves!), the class flew by due to the amazing ability of the instructor, Larisa Unger, to keep us in the right form, to ensure we were OK, to keep the class moving along, and to keep us laughing with her sense of humor and adorable Russian accent.

So I kept coming back. And Larisa is so motivating that I decided to try her other classes (cycle, Les Mills Body Combat, Attack, whatever I could fit into my schedule). I just knew that if she was teaching it, I would enjoy taking it.

Why is she so great?

There’s something about how she teaches that makes you want to do your best, try your hardest, be your best. I think it has something to do with her ability to make you laugh while you are in pain and the fact that she is right there doing it with you, encouraging you. As she likes to joke, “your muscles will be screaming at you in Russian tomorrow!” And you know they will be, and yet somehow you are glad about that.

She knows how to modify exercises for her clients with various injuries. She remembers the names of those in her classes, so when you hear her say your name at the barre or in the middle of a side kick, or on the bike, you know she is paying attention to what you are doing. She jumps off her own bike to check on us, making sure we are challenging ourselves and keeping us on beat with the music, all while dancing around having fun. Larisa doesn’t just walk into a studio, teach and leave. She’s like a force of energy around which we all orbit for an hour. She is the power source that keeps us going, and she is what makes those classes come alive! She teaches something like 20+ classes per week, in addition to personal training, and raising three kids. I am not sure she sleeps.

She shies away from accolades; when people thank her she reluctantly takes the credit, preferring to deflect the praise back on her clients and their efforts.  She delights in the successes of her clients and students. I have seen firsthand the impact she has had on many: weight loss, muscle tone, increased strength and self-confidence. For me, taking her barre classes (and others) has allowed me to strengthen my back so that I can run again and run better and faster. It’s Larisa’s voice I hear in my head, pushing me to run faster up that hill. And at 42, I am in better shape now than I have ever been, and I have tried classes I never thought I would, all thanks to her. There is no one else like her, and I am incredibly thankful that I had the luck to walk into her studio two years ago. She has changed my life for the better.

I currently take Larisa’s body pump, body attack, and spinning classes at the JCC in Owings Mills.

She is truly an inspirational athlete, trainer and fitness mentor.

I have been training with Larisa for several years and I am definitely in the best shape of my life at 48.  Not only does she make it fun to work out, but she also works us to the core every time.  When you are in her class,  she is enthusiastic for you to do and be your best, and you see and feel the energy of the other people in the class who are also determined to work hard and strive for that sculpted body.  That level of energy is what propels you to new fitness levels, you really feel like you could lift a car if you had to!

She is encouraging from the beginner, who has never taken her class before to the seasoned regulars that come weekly.  She will push you to your limits and beyond.  When you take Larisa’s class get ready to work, she plays no games and would make your eyebrows sweat if she could!

Her training has spilled over into my personal and business life as well.  She instills confidence in you, so you can be your best.

It’s a balance, between achieving your own personal goals and maintaining happy & healthy relationships, feeling good about yourself and not letting every little thing get to you.

I saw a poster that said “when I am sweating, I know my fat cells are crying”  with Larisa they sure are

I am inspired by Larisa’s work ethic and determination
